Step 1. Use Graph Paper to Sketch Your Design
Use Excel to create a grid where the dimensions of each square are the same size as each square of the mesh rug canvas. I have created this tutorial to show How to Create Graph Paper in Excel. Print out a blank grid and fill in the squares to create your design.
Cut the mesh canvas to size. I recommend leaving 1”+ on each side to allow you space to finish the edges of the piece later.
Step 2. Transfer the Design onto the Mesh Canvas
Place your mesh fabric on top of your graph paper and transfer the design onto the canvas. To preserve the graph paper template, use a piece of parchment paper in between the layers.
Step 3. Cut the Pieces of Yarn
Count the number of strands of yarn required in each color from the graph paper template. Cut the strands of yarn using worsted (medium #4) weight yarn and a 3.5” (8.9 cm) pom-pom maker. I like to tie them into bundles of 50 to keep them organized!
Ta-Da! Now you have a finished latch hook kit!
